2012 Board of Trustees Application Process Opens Feb. 13Four positions on the Group Health Board of Trustees are open for election in October 2012. The application process will begin Feb. 13, and the application deadline is April 9. Please check this page Feb. 13 for updated application materials, resources, and key dates for the 2012 process. Below is last year's application process for reference only; the 2012 process will be revised slightly. As the governing body of Group Health, the 11-member Board of Trustees hires the chief executive officer and sets the strategy, policy, and direction for the nonprofit organization, which had $3 billion in estimated revenue in 2010. To receive full consideration, new applicants must be available to participate in both interview rounds. QualificationsYou must be a Group Health member and be registered as a voting member. KPS Health Plans enrollees are not eligible. Log in to MyGroupHealth to access the voting membership registration form. To register by phone, call 206-448-2888 or 1-800-252-3305, ext. 14. Board members cannot be employees of Group Health or of any entity providing professional services on behalf of Group Health, or a person providing professional services to Group Health. Application ProcessNew applicants and incumbent Board members must submit the appropriate forms (see the Application Materials box), completed as requested. Failure to do so will prevent you from being considered as a candidate. You must also submit your résumé, which should include your work history, education, and relevant experience. Background screeningEnsuring that all persons associated with Group Health are of the highest integrity is vital to our ability to care for our patients, to our long-term success as a health care organization, and to our reputation in the communities we serve. For more information, see the Board of Trustees' Conflict of Interest and Code of Conduct policies (see the Resources for Board Applicants box). To comply with these policies, applicants must complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement to help identify any potential, perceived, or actual conflicts of interest. Potential conflicts do not necessarily disqualify an applicant. Applicants who are invited to interview will be required to complete additional background screening authorization forms, which will assist us in verifying education and work history, identifying any criminal convictions, and ensuring that applicants have not been excluded from participating in Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal health care programs. Time CommitmentBoard members spend an average of 20 hours per month fulfilling their service responsibilities. This includes preparation time for and regular attendance of Board and committee meetings, retreats, study sessions, and other ad hoc or special assignments as designated by the Board chair. Board committees include: Audit and Compliance, Compensation, Cooperative Development, Finance and Investment, Officers' Group, and Quality. Most Board and committee meetings are held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Board members also are expected to attend the annual membership meeting in October. Financial ConsiderationsReview the three compensation documents (see the Resources for Board Applicants box) for more information about Board of Trustees compensation. Trustees also serve as the Group Health Options, Inc. Board of Directors. An additional $250 stipend is paid per meeting for attendance at Group Health Options, Inc. Board meetings. Group Health Options is a wholly owned subsidiary of Group Health Cooperative. Group Health has statutory authority to indemnify its trustees against financial harm incurred as a result of a trustee's performance of duties as a member of the governing board.
