Senior Fitness Programs

You know you've picked the right health plan when you get more ways to stay your healthiest. By joining Group Health's Clear Care® Medicare Advantage HMO plans, you are automatically enrolled in three different senior exercise programs: SilverSneakers®, EnhanceFitness®, and Senior Zoo Walkers. (Senior Zoo Walkers is available to all Group Health members aged 55 years and older, not just Clear Care HMO members.)

You can improve your balance, strength, flexibility, and reduce stress — all while meeting and making friends. And it's easy to get started. To join, just visit one of the participating locations and present your Group Health member ID card. Nothing could be easier.

SilverSneakers

Build a strong body and solid friendships with the SilverSneakers fitness program. Participating locations offer amenities such as weights, stationary bikes, and treadmills for a more active workout. Some locations have a pool or sauna. Fitness classes taught by certified instructors are held in the morning and early afternoon, and introductory classes are not required.

EnhanceFitness

Designed by health experts, EnhanceFitness is taught by specially trained fitness professionals. The classes are held at local community centers. You get walking or aerobics, stretching, strength, and balance training. Classes are an hour long, three times a week, so you get what doctors recommend: fitness that's frequent. Just call or visit a facility to find out more.

Senior Zoo Walkers

Senior Zoo Walkers is a unique program to promote fitness and well-being among seniors. Twice a week, a Group Health fitness leader takes a group on a morning walk through Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo. The group stretches and warms up before starting the hour-long walk. There is a small fee for each three-month period.

Senior Zoo Walkers enjoy the zoo, improve their health through regular exercise and forge strong friendships that keep them walking year after year. Presentations on health and zoo topics are given quarterly. More than half the Zoo Walkers have participated in the program for more than five years, walking twice a week with friends. Most are in their 70s, with ages ranging from 55 to over 90.

Senior Zoo Walkers is operated in partnership with Group Health Foundation, Group Health Cooperative, and the Woodland Park Zoo. For more information and to register, see Senior Zoo Walkers under Classes and Events.

Note: Senior Zoo Walkers is available to all Group Health members aged 55 years and older, not just Clear Care HMO members.
