Why Group Health and Cycling?

Group Health Cooperative is sponsoring cycling events and programs to raise public awareness about the health benefits of an active lifestyle.

One out of three residents in Washington state owns a bicycle, so cycling is a way for many of us to have an active, healthy lifestyle.

A focus on cycling, with event sponsorships and promotion of cycle safety, is a natural part of Group Health's long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of the community. Cycling has become part of Group Health's promotional efforts, its community outreach, and its social mission.

Health Benefits
Cycling definitely has health benefits! If you ride at a moderate pace for as little as 30 minutes every other day, you'll meet the American Heart Association's exercise recommendation for heart health.

Regular cycling — or other moderate physical activity — may decrease your risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis (weak bones), and colon cancer. Cycling also can reduce stress and lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

Group Health Sponsorships
Our commitment to cycling in 2009 includes sponsoring:
The 2009 Seattle International Bicycle Expo, kicking off the season
The Group Health Seattle to Portland (STP) Bicycle Classic

Cycling team sponsorships: Team Group Health, Western Washington University Cycling, and WOW Babes Cycling Club (Women on Wheels)
