Fall 2011 Gift of Health ReportLetter From Laura
Laura Rehrmann, FAHP
President Once upon a time, in a kingdom far, far away ... Are you already leaning forward to hear the next words? The story's about to begin! Many of us have indelible memories of reading aloud with a teacher, a parent, or with our own children and no doubt these experiences have contributed to our fluency and pleasure in reading. At Group Health Cooperative, we believe that every healthy childhood should include books and reading, and we think that pediatric health care providers have a unique opportunity to deliver that message to families. Some of our medical clinics have partnered with Reach Out and Read® a national, nonprofit organization to make books and reading a standard part of pediatric primary care. By placing reading on par with preventive care and treatment of illness, our clinicians underscore its importance, impressing on kids and their parents that reading is fundamental ... and fun. Please read our stories from the Gift of Health Report, and consider joining our efforts to put books in the hands of children ensuring that our little patients read "happily ever after." Thanks for all you do,
