Fall 2011 Gift of Health Report
Psst. Pass it On
Evan Solomon's first-grade teacher has asked her students to keep a reading log. Evan's recent entries include "A Trip in the Van," "A Tree Can Be ...," "Yip! Yap!," and "A Funny Man." His parents have been reading to him since he was an infant and now he enjoys translating the printed symbols for himself.
Evan probably doesn't yet know the phrase "pay it forward" the understanding that a good deed will be repaid by passing it along to a third party but he knows how it works. At bedtime, Evan reads aloud to his 2-year-old brother.
The Reach Out and Read program encourages reading aloud with young children. You can join in whether or not you have a young child in your life. To make a donation to the program, click on the Donate Now button above to support Reach Out and Read in one of our clinics.
