Philosophy of care: I believe that the journey to health is personal. It's led by the patient, assisted by the doctor, and includes all physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the patient.

Education: MD, Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, N.C., 1989; Master of Public Health, University of Washington, 2010

Advanced training: Family medicine internship, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, N.C., 1989-90; family medicine residency, Valley Medical Center, Renton, Wash., 1990-92; faculty development fellowship, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., 1994-96

Certifications: Board Certification in Family Practice

Personal interests: Ice dancing, ballroom dancing, traveling, sailing, hiking, biking, and jazz.

Statement: I have a great deal of interest in the medical home paradigm, specifically in terms of developing curriculum to support its implementation. I believe Group Health leads the way to optimize training for family physicians in the future.
