Program Highlights
What makes us stand out?
The medical home. Over the past two years Group Health has transformed primary care through the full implementation of the medical home, and our residency has been a full partner in the process. Through the use of registries, close teamwork with the clinic staff, and cutting-edge utilization of electronic and phone visits with patients, we have seen patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and quality measures improve. We believe training in this setting allows each resident to learn the best medical practices, which can be utilized in all practice settings.
Unopposed program that is strongly supported by a large organization designed around the family physician. Here, the role and importance of the family doctor are unquestioned.
Devoted faculty members have diverse backgrounds and interests, and maintain clinical practices to keep their own skills sharp and current. The small size of this group ensures dedicated commitment to the residency.
Teen Pregnancy and Parenting Clinic. Residents get longitudinal and continuity experience during the second and third year in this clinic that serves primarily underserved populations. Combination of adolescent medicine, prenatal care, obstetrics, and pediatrics true family medicine. There is a team approach to care with an experienced nurse, dietician, and social worker in addition to the family practice attendings and residents.
Education mission is primary. Our residency program prioritizes educational opportunities over heavy patient loads. This means there is time left for didactics and you can work with your attending to choose which cases represent the best learning experience for you.
HIV training. Residents benefit from the expertise of faculty members with busy HIV practices. From didactic training to one-on-one clinics with faculty to an HIV elective, residents have the opportunity to customize their learning experience.
Abortion training. As a RHEDI grant site, all residents participate in an opt-out rotation at Planned Parenthood and a small private clinic to train in counseling, early dating ultrasounds, and medical and surgical abortions. Additional training is available in the Group Health abortion clinic and at other sites for those interested in additional experience.
