Medical Student Opportunities
Our residency has been actively involved in teaching medical students in family medicine for nearly 40 years.
University of Washington Required Clerkship in Family Medicine
For six weeks, the clinical clerk will work in the clinic with our residency faculty and senior residents. Other interesting opportunities in the clerkship involve a variety of practices including regular work with underserved populations at our Teen Pregnancy and Parenting Clinic. Clinical clerks attend residency didactics and have an opportunity to be integrated in a team environment and also experience what it is like to be in a family medicine residency.
University of Washington Clinical Elective in Family Medicine
Ranging from two to four weeks, this is an opportunity to explore in more depth aspects of family medicine at an intern level. Activities include proactive prevention or evidence-based decision making, while also working on skills in patient care in the outpatient setting. Our available slots are extremely limited; we highly recommend you contact us at the beginning of each calendar year.
Visiting Student Clinical Elective in Family Medicine
For 2012-2013, Group Health Family Medicine Residency will offer family medicine clinical electives for visiting medical students. Our availability is based on open positions once our University of Washington placements are filled. Please contact us in March for availability. For more information about other elective opportunities, please contact the University of Washington Family Medicine Network. We do encourage those with a residency application under review and interested in our program to shadow a half or full day with our residents, faculty, or both.
