Salary and Benefits
The 2011-2012 salary schedule for residents is:
- First-year resident (R1): $50,000
- Second-year resident (R2): $51,000
- Third-year resident (R3): $53,000
Benefits include but are not limited to:
- Subsidized comprehensive medical, surgical, and hospitalization coverage at Group Health. Amount paid by resident varies by family members covered.
- Subsidized dental coverage.
- Vision coverage.
- Disability and life insurance.
- Malpractice insurance.
- On-call meals.
- Eight paid holidays per year are subject to call schedule and inpatient duties.
- Sick leave.
- Maternity leave.
- Vacation: 15 days each for R1s and R2s; 17 days for R3s.
- Comp days: Comp days are provided for residents with inpatient duties on Group Health's Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holidays.
- Continuing medical education: five days each for R2s and R3s.
- CME expenses: $800 for R2s; $1,000 for R3s.
- Month away: R2s may take a four-week elective elsewhere and still receive the usual salary. This must be an approved educational experience.
- Parking.
- Washington physician's license.
- National Board Exam (Step 3) fee.
- American Academy of Family Physicians membership dues.
Moonlighting is possible once a resident is fully licensed.
