CDC Vaccination Information Statements and Immunization Schedules
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) creates Vaccine Information Statements (VISs). Each VIS includes information about the purpose of the vaccine and about risks, precautions, and who should get the vaccine.
There are no new or updated Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) for the Spring 2017 Release.
We replaced the previous version of this immunization schedule with the latest version provided by the CDC:
- Adult Immunization Schedule
- Childhood Immunization Catch-Up Schedule: Ages 4 Months to 18 Years
- Childhood Immunization Schedule: Ages 0 to 6 Years
- Childhood Immunization Schedule: Ages 7 to 18 Years

Osteoporosis: Should I Take Bisphosphonate Medicines?
: We expanded and revised this topic. We now address all postmenopausal women, with or without osteoporosis. We explain how the benefits of each option depend on your risk of fracture. And we added a discussion of atypical fractures and jaw osteonecrosis, including an estimate for the chances.

Colorectal Cancer: Which Screening Test Should I Have?
: Under "What do experts recommend?" in Get the Facts, we now say that some tests may not be available near where a person lives, so they should check with their doctor.

Cosmetic Surgery and Procedures
: We added two treatments to the list of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. These include injectable deoxycholic acid (Kybella) and the use of a handheld device that freezes fat cells below the surface of the skin (CoolSculpting).

Endovascular Repair for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
: We revised the estimated perioperative mortality rate for endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease
: We now say the disease can be spread by contact with the fluid from the blisters.

Teething Products
: We added the FDA warning against using teething tablets, which may contain belladonna, a toxic substance that can harm your child.

Open Repair Surgery for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
: We revised the estimated perioperative mortality rate and complication rate for open repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Prostate Cancer: Should I Choose Active Surveillance?
: Under "What are the benefits of active surveillance?" in Get the Facts, we now say that for men with low-risk localized prostate cancer who choose active surveillance, the chance of their cancer spreading is low. We also say that one study that compared active monitoring (a watch-and-wait program like active surveillance), surgery, and radiation in men with localized prostate cancer found that the risk of dying was about the same no matter what men chose.

Prostate Cancer: Should I Have Radiation or Surgery for Localized Prostate Cancer?
: We revised this document based on several new studies with information comparing treatments, risks, side effects, factors to weigh during decision making, and reasons for doctors' recommendations.

Thyroid Surgery
: Under How Well It Works, we added information about the effectiveness of surgery for a noncancerous thyroid nodule.

What to Expect When You Have an Extremely
Premature Infant
: We updated "extremely premature" to mean an infant born before 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Heart failure: In several documents, we revised the range of sudden weight gain that patients should watch for. We now say to watch for a sudden weight gain such as more than 2 to 3 pounds in a day or 5 pounds in a week. (Your doctor may suggest a different range of weight gain.)
