Anticoagulation Management Services
Anticoagulation Management Services (AMS) cares for members who are at risk for blood clots or stroke. AMS staff includes pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses (RNs), and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who are specially trained in warfarin therapy.
Warfarin, also known as Coumadin, slows blood clotting in people who are at risk for stroke or blood clots in their lungs or veins, or have an irregular heartbeat.
AMS staff monitor lab results to assess if any changes need to be made in the warfarin dose. They then consult with patients over the phone. During calls they may recommend dosage changes and will set dates for follow-up lab work. AMS staff also may consult with your personal physician or specialty care physicians in complex cases.
