Group Health 'Top Docs' Reap Honors in 2009

Seattle Magazine 2009 Top Docs coverGroup Health is pleased to announce that more than 50 of our doctors have been ranked by their peers as the best in their fields and are featured in the 2009 "Top Doctors" issues of Seattle magazine, Seattle Metropolitan magazine, Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Living magazine, and 425 Magazine.

In August, Seattle Metropolitan magazine named 36 Group Health clinicians among the best in King, Kitsap, and Snohomish counties. In July, Seattle Magazine named 31 Group Health clinicians in the Seattle-Bellevue area. And in March, six Group Health doctors were honored in Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Living magazine's 2009 Best Doctors edition.

425 Magazine, covering East King County, honored Group Health doctors Priscilla Madsen and Patricia Boiko with its second-annual "Doctors Making a Difference" awards. Dr. Boiko, a family physician at Factoria Medical Center, is also a medical volunteer in Rwanda and a documentary filmmaker, among other accomplishments. Dr. Madsen, who practices the rare specialty of interventional pulmonology at the Bellevue Medical Center, is noted for her dedication to her sometimes terminally ill patients. Rob Nohle, MD, pediatrics; Tom Lindquist, MD, ophthalmology; and Julie Grimm, RN, bariatric surgery also were nominated.

In a separate feature in Seattle magazine, "The Doctor Is In," Group Health doctor Harry Shriver touts the benefits of our "medical home" model and its emphasis on patient-centered primary care. The full story is available only in the print edition of the magazine. Dr. Shriver was also quoted and pictured in a New York Times article, Health Co-op Offers Model for Overhaul, published in July.

As one of the largest medical groups in Washington state, we at Group Health believe that all our 900-plus physicians are tops, and many have been nationally recognized for their contributions to health care. Our clinicians dedicate themselves daily to providing top-quality, personalized and convenient care to all of their patients. Join us as we applaud those honored here among our many worthy Group Health caregivers.

"[These clinicians] represent the excellence and service to which we aspire to consistently provide all our patients across the organization," said Michael Soman, MD, president and chief medical executive of Group Health Permanente, the patient-care arm of Group Health.
