For appointments with your personal physician, just call your doctor's office. Call if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. You can also schedule appointments with Kaiser Permanente doctors online.
Use our Provider Directory to find your doctor's phone number. Having your member ID number handy when you call makes the process go a little faster, but if you don't have it we can look it up for you. For immediate health concerns, same-day appointments with your personal physician are normally available.
If you haven't chosen a personal physician, use the Provider Directory to find one or call Member Services for help.
Appointments With Specialists
You can make appointments directly (without a referral) with most Kaiser Permanente specialists at Kaiser Permanente medical offices locations. Use the Provider Directory to find specialists who meet your needs and who are available for self-referral. Simply call the specialist or schedule online.
In most case, you need a referral to see contracted specialists.
You can schedule online for most non-urgent appointments with providers at Kaiser Permanente medical offices. This includes appointments with primary care doctors, eye care doctors, physical therapists, most specialists, and phone consultations with the Travel Advisory Service. You can also cancel most appointments online, too. For access to online scheduling, register and sign on to the member website.
Online scheduling is not available for contracted doctors who do not practice at Kaiser Permanente medical offices.
Payment for Services
If your health plan requires a copayment for your appointment, you will generally be asked for your copayment at the beginning of a visit.
You may pay with a personal check or a bank card. Kaiser Permanente accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We don't accept cash payments at Kaiser Permanente clinics and pharmacies.
You have choices in how to get care after regular hours, on weekends, and on holidays. We can help, from minor health concerns to urgent care.
Appointments When Traveling
Non-urgent appointments: Kaiser Permanente members traveling outside our service areas can receive routine care from Kaiser Permanente where available. Visit the Kaiser Permanente website and select the area where you will be visiting. Students who attend school away from home may also receive care at Kaiser Permanente.
Note: Some services at Kaiser Permanente require pre-authorization. Contact Member Services for information about your coverage at Kaiser.
Emergencies and urgent care: Kaiser Permanente covers medical emergencies worldwide. If you have a medical emergency while traveling, call 911 or the local emergency assistance number immediately. Then within 24 hours or as soon as reasonably possible, call our Emergency Notification Line so we can follow up on your care.
If you need urgent care while traveling, call your personal physician during office hours for advice. After hours, call the Consulting Nurse Service.
