Kaiser Permanente's pregnancy services are designed to give you plenty of options to meet your individual preferences and needs, whether you're trying to get pregnant or are already pregnant.
Whether you want to give birth in a hospital or home, a full range of health care professionals is available to make the process as easy, stress-free, and safe as possible for you. You can choose from a family physician who offers obstetrics services, an obstetrician/gynecologist (Ob/Gyn), or a certified nurse midwife (CNM). And, if you're having a hard time getting pregnant, you have access to infertility specialists who can help you with the most advanced treatments.
If you want a lot of support or just a minimum of routine prenatal visits, we make it easy to choose the providers you want with our focus always on giving you a safe, supportive experience.
Kaiser Permanente's network includes hospitals throughout Washington state and North Idaho that provide convenient birth services for all our members. Obstetrical providers work closely with pediatricians and home health services in the communities Kaiser Permanente serves.
Kaiser Permanente doctors and certified nurse-midwives deliver babies at specialized birth units in some of our network hospitals. What's more, Kaiser Permanente is committed to teaching the next generation of family physicians, and we have an active medical resident training program. In some cases, our family medicine residents may assist with your care if you choose to give birth at Swedish First Hill. Residents work under the guidance of family physicians, obstetricians, and midwives. Residents have completed medical school and are in the final three years of training to become board-certified family doctors. Residents are also available to provide newborn care.
